Two accessories to buy for your 4x4 vehicle before taking it on a long off-road journey

Blog

If you're about to head off on a long off-road journey in your 4x4, here are some accessories that you might want to invest in before you leave.

A new 4x4 suspension kit

The suspension components of a 4x4 are subjected to a lot of wear and tear during a typical off-road journey.

If your vehicle has already been driven on rough terrain several times and as a result of this, various parts of its suspension (such as the struts, shock absorbers and steering damper) have deteriorated quite a bit, then it might be worth buying a new 4x4 suspension kit before your next journey. If your current suspension system is in less-than-perfect condition, your experience of driving off-road for an extended period of time is likely to be uncomfortable and could even turn out to be dangerous. For example, if you drive on a very bumpy rural road for several hours and your steering damper has deteriorated to the point where it is not performing its function, you may find that your hands start to feel numb as a result of being exposed to the constant vibrations of the steering wheel. This could not only be physically uncomfortable but could also result in you struggling to steer the vehicle safely.

Likewise, if the suspension's shock absorbers have sustained damage, you will probably find yourself being flung off the seat every single time you drive over a bump or a pothole (something which is likely to occur very frequently during an off-road journey). Experiencing this continually for several hours at a time may leave your lower back and tailbone feeling very sore, so much so that you may need to take an extended break from driving. As such, it is worth investing in a new suspension kit to ensure that your off-road experience is as safe and as comfortable as possible.

A set of off-road driving lamps

If your journey is going to be a long one, then you will probably find yourself driving during periods when there is very little natural light. This, coupled with the fact that there is unlikely to be many street lamps nearby if you will be travelling off-road, means that you will be heavily reliant on your vehicle's lights to guide you during these times. Because of this, it is worth buying a set of off-road driving lamps for the front of your vehicle.

These lamps are made of tougher materials than those found on most vehicles' integrated lights. As such, they will be better able to cope with the vibrations and the forceful impact that they are likely to be subjected to during a journey on rough terrain, without breaking.

This, in turn, will mean that should your vehicle's own lights sustain damage, you should still be able to proceed with your journey late at night, as these lamps will continue to provide you with a powerful source of light that will allow you to move forward safely.

Auto Accessories: The Best Aftermarket Parts to Improve Your Vehicle

Hi, my name is Randi, and I love working with cars. I like to fix them, but I also like to improve them with cool after-market parts. From my experience, all types of vehicles benefit differently from different after-market parts. Some of them need big speakers and better stereos, while others need better tires or new hubcaps. Through years of improving my vehicle and helping my friends, I have learned a lot about spotting the best deals, figuring out what will increase the car's value the most and learning how to install different elements. If you want to learn about car accessories, I hope you explore this blog. It is something I decided to make for fun so I could share what I know with others.
